History of Piracy
- Piracy has been going on in national waters for hundreds of years but in the last hundred or so years it has seemed to disappear.
- In the last hundred years piracy has been very active in the Strait of Malacca where about 40% of the worlds trading takes place.
- Since 2005 the governments of Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore and India have coordinated security patrols to significantly drop the percent of attacks.
- Another popular place of piracy is in the Gulf of Aden by Somalia.
- In 2008, pirates kidnapped 815 crew members on 42 different ships in the Gulf of Aden.
What do the pirates have to gain or lose? How are the motivated to take the risks?

I think piracy is pretty cool. If i was in the old days, I would definitely have been a pirate. But now, in today's times, I don't think piracy would really work. Because of modern-day technology it would be easy to stop the pirates.
