Prevention of Piracy:
- Frequent patrols by international naval vessels
- Shipping companies have set armed security on their ships to help prevent attacks and potential rises in piracy
- They also put security on the ships so they don't have to waste fuel trying to avoid the piracy hot spots
- Many confrontations between pirates and private security vessels have occurred
- 544 attacks worldwide in 2011
- The number of kidnappings and hijackings have decreased
- Between 1 January and 7 June 2012, there were 157 reported pirate attacks worldwide, with a total of 18 successful hijackings
- 12 of the hijackings have involved Somali pirates and involved an estimated 188 hostages
- 8 out of 9 pirate attacks are thwarted
Nice information so far. Maybe you could talk about past piracy events and problems such as the Somalian Pirates conflict.
